How the rules and prices on this site are sourced
Every rule, deadline and price links to where it came from and shows the date we last checked it.

Rules come from the state regulator or the legislation itself. Prices come from named industry sources and are labelled as industry figures wherever they appear. If we cannot find a source for a number, the number is not on the site.
Where do the rules come from?
- New South Wales: the NSW Government's pool owner pages and the Swimming Pools Regulation 2018.
- Victoria: the state building regulator, now the Building and Plumbing Commission (its website still sits at vba.vic.gov.au), and Consumer Affairs Victoria for renting.
- Queensland: the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC).
- Western Australia: Building and Energy, part of the WA Government.
Right now the site carries 72 sourced figures and rules: 53 from official government pages and 19 from named industry sources.
Where do the prices come from?
Governments do not publish what a pool, a fence or a private inspection costs, so those figures come from pool cost guides and inspection businesses that publish their prices. We name the source next to each one. Treat them as a starting point for a conversation with the people quoting, not as a quote.
What did we leave out?
Some figures that circulate widely could not be traced to a source we were willing to cite, including typical council approval and certification fees for a new pool and a single total cost for fencing a pool. They stay off the site until they can be sourced.
How are figures kept current?
Every figure carries an expiry date. Before each update we run a check that lists anything past that date, and we re-verify it at the source before it stays on the site.
What is this site not?
We are not a government agency, a council or a pool safety inspector, and we do not certify pools. Nothing here is legal advice. Whether a barrier complies is decided by a registered inspector, a certifier or your council.
How is the site paid for?
When you ask for quotes, we may pass your request to inspectors, fencing contractors or pool builders, and they may pay us for that introduction. That never changes the rules or prices we publish.
